May 2013
Message From the President

Dear NAWBO Members and Friends,

Happy spring! As my presidency winds down, I want to thank everyone who has helped me grow as a leader this year. I’ve tried to invigorate our chapter with some new energy, and I think we’ve enjoyed some wonderful events and programs this year. Thanks too to all the new members who have recently come aboard. Tell your friends! Then join a committee and help make NAWBO even better….

Our most recent networking event—Networking at the Gallery—was a huge success. Meeting at the Richard Stravitz Sculpture & Fine Art Gallery—surrounded by beautiful art—added an inspirational spark to conversations throughout the evening. Catherine’s Catering provided a sumptuous spread of delicacies, and wine sales benefited the Foodbank. An exciting raffle with great prizes topped off the evening, and we appreciate those of you who donated gifts: Ellen Keeter with TowneBank, Rev. Ruth Littlejohn of Hampton Roads Center for Spiritual Living, Dr. Carly Swift of Wave of Life Chiropractic, and Dr. Tanya Brown of The Center for Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry. Thanks also to our event sponsors: Jessica Salazar with Northwestern Mutual, Denise Rang with Ahead of Hair, Tracy Boswell with Sea Shore Realty, Jackie Gilmartin of College Park Executive Suites, and Melissa Jackson Howell, Esq., of Howell Law Group. Finally, thanks to everyone who helped make the evening a success, especially Melinda Sikora, our programs co-chair.

What’s next? Well, if you missed the membership drive that ended April 30, I have great news. Our local chapter is extending the Free Dinner Ticket special! If you become a member by May 31, you will receive one free admission to a monthly dinner meeting: a $35 value! This special ends May 31, so act now. To join, please go to  www.nawbo.org, click on Membership and then Join Now! We would love to have you join NAWBO and become part of the rising movement of women business owners.

Hope to see you at the May 15 meeting. In the meantime, enjoy this lovely time of year.

Sponsorship

A sponsorship with NAWBO SEVA is a great way to market your products and services with women business owners.

The NAWBO-Southeastern Virginia Corporate Sponsorship Program was created to establish alliances between women business owners and the business community. The women business owners who are members of NAWBO bring new ideas and products to the marketplace on a regular basis.  There is no better organization in Hampton Roads to meet women business owners. We have several sponsorship opportunities for every budget that will enable you to promote your business and generate new customers and/or clients with our current members.

For more information on our sponsorship program, please contact Jodie Woodward, Corporate and Economic Development Chair at 757-222-2355 or jodie.woodward@sponsorships-unlimited.com.

Public Policy and You

Governor McDonnell signed the transportation bill last month, after many months of negotiation. While it gives funds to our region, it doesn't provide enough funds to Hampton Roads for all the projects we need.

If you've driven on I-264 at night, you are aware that they are working diligently all through the night to repair this highway at long last.
